The Epic and the Epic Hero

Beowulf is the British Isle's epic about a brave Scandanavian warrior who takes on battles to save many people from destruction.

Beowulf Comprehension Guides and Study Resources

Requirements for COMPREHENSION GUIDES                                        

1.  Click on the icon next to the name of the topic and open the document.

2. Print out the handout and complete the questions.  Some of these we have reviewed and discussed in class. 

3. Turn in the Comprehension Guides with the tests.  These count as 10% of the test grade.  Example:  If the test is worth 100 points, then the guide will be worth 10 more points which equals to 110 points total for the test.  A deduction of -1 point for each unanswered question up to the points equal to the total can be deducted.

Beowulf Part 2 COMPREHENSION GUIDES

Part 2 of the Epic Beowulf includes the Battle with Grendel's Mother (pps. 56--61) and the Last Battle.  The epic continues from the day after the battle with Grendel and then jumps to many decades  later when Beowulf has reigned as king for fifty years.  Print out Comprehension Guides and bring to class.  After Literature Circle discussions are completed, then comprehension guides will be discussed.  All sections are required to be completed for the test.
